You might be surprised by the most common problem I see with CEOs these days...
- It's not hiring
- It's not sales
- It's not a lack of resources
- It's not the competition
So what is it? It's not having a clear, compelling, exciting vision that the business is working together to achieve. No picture on the fridge. No VISION.
If you ask 10 people where we are going as a team and what it will be like when we get there and you get 10 random answers, you're not alone. But you are in trouble.
If there is no exciting vision of a place we all want to go, then there is no way to ever get there. No amount of funding or marketing or AI will replace the lack of a clear vision.
Leaders often overthink vision and strategize it until no one understands it. Or they just ignore the fact that there isn't one at all. The best example of a clear, compelling vision was when I showed my (large) family a picture of our spring break destination to Turks & Caicos Island. Pandemonium broke out with cheers and excitement. No one asked about flights or passports or sunscreen. All of which are important details; but very secondary to the picture of the beach on our fridge.
And yes, you do have some other important jobs; but if you don't get this first one right, none of those matter.
